|---|---|---|
| car | coche / carro / auto | We bought a new car. (Compramos un coche nuevo.) |
| bus | autobús / camión / colectivo | The bus is late again. (El autobús llega tarde otra vez.) |
| train | tren | The train to Boston leaves at nine. |
| plane | avión | The plane landed on time. (El avión aterrizó a su hora.) |
| bike | bici | I ride my bike to school. (Voy a la escuela en bici.) |
| subway | metro | The subway is faster than the bus. |
| taxi / cab | taxi | Let’s take a cab. (Tomemos un taxi.) |
| boat / ship | barco | They crossed the lake by boat. (Cruzaron el lago en barco.) |
By car, by bus, on foot: cómo decir en qué vas
Para decir cómo viajas, usa by + medio de transporte, sin artículo: by car, by bus, by train, by plane, by bike, by subway, by taxi, by boat.
- I go to work by train. (Voy al trabajo en tren.)
- Is it cheaper to travel by bus or by plane?
- She comes to school on foot.
|---|---|---|
| by car | in my car | en mi coche |
| by taxi | in a taxi | en un taxi |
| by bus | on the bus | en el autobús |
| by train | on the 8:15 train | en el tren de las 8:15 |
| by bike | on my bike | en mi bici |
Las reglas generales de in y on están en la lección de preposiciones en inglés.
Verbos: get on, get off, catch, miss
El inglés distingue según el vehículo: si entras agachado y vas sentado (coche, taxi), usas get in y get out of; si puedes ir de pie o vas montado encima (autobús, tren, avión, barco, bici), usas get on y get off.
| Inglés | Español | Ejemplo |
|---|---|---|
| get on | subir (bus, tren, avión) | Get on the bus at Main Street. (Sube al autobús en Main Street.) |
| get off | bajar (bus, tren, avión) | We got off at the next stop. (Nos bajamos en la siguiente parada.) |
| get in | subir (coche, taxi) | Get in the car, we’re late! (¡Sube al coche, que llegamos tarde!) |
| get out of | bajar (coche, taxi) | He got out of the taxi. (Se bajó del taxi.) |
| take | tomar / coger | I usually take the subway. (Normalmente tomo el metro.) |
| catch | llegar a tiempo para tomar | I caught the last train. (Alcancé el último tren.) |
| miss | perder | She missed her flight. (Perdió el vuelo.) |

| A round-trip ticket to Denver, please.
