En resumen

  • There is (there's) va con un sustantivo singular o incontable: There's a cat, There's some milk.
  • There are va con plurales: There are two cats, There are a lot of people.
  • Negativa con isn't / aren't + any, o con there's no / there are no; nunca las dos a la vez.
  • En las preguntas se invierte el orden: Is there...?, Are there...?; respuesta corta Yes, there is (sin contraer).
  • En pasado, «había» o «hubo» es there was (singular) o there were (plural).

There is o there are

Si necesitas repasar la regla completa, consulta la lección de there is y there are.

There is o there are
Lo que hay Forma Ejemplo
Singular there is (there’s) There’s a bank near here. (Hay un banco cerca.)
Incontable there is (there’s) There’s some bread. (Hay pan.)
Plural there are There are two banks.

Van con there is. Al revés, people es plural: There are a lot of people. Si dudas, repasa los sustantivos contables e incontables.

Negativas y preguntas

Para negar tienes dos opciones: There isn’t any milk o There’s no milk. En las preguntas, is o are pasa delante: Is there…?, Are there…? El uso de any y some está en la lección de some y any.

There was y there were

En pasado, is pasa a was y are pasa a were, igual que en el pasado de to be.

  1. Mira lo que viene detrás

Singular o incontable, is / was; plural, are / were.

  3. Distingue «hay» de «está»

Algo nuevo: There’s a bank on the corner. Algo conocido: The bank is on the corner.

  4. Escribe bien there

There /ðɛr/, their (su, de ellos) y they’re (ellos son) suenan igual, pero solo there sirve para decir «hay».

Si quieres seguir con cantidades (How many…?, How much…?), sigue con los ejercicios de much y many.
